How Long Does a Rented Power Bank Actually Last?

A rental power bank is sized for a day out, not a week away. Here is what that means in practice.

Roughly how many charges

Capacity is the number that matters. A 5,000 mAh rental unit carries enough for about one full charge of a typical phone, and rather less once conversion losses are counted. Larger phones with 4,500 mAh or more of their own capacity will take most of it in a single top-up.

What drains it faster

  • Cold weather. Lithium cells deliver less usable charge below freezing.
  • Charging while you use the phone, especially with the screen bright and mobile data hunting for signal.
  • Older cables, which waste more as heat.

When to swap

Return it and take a fresh one rather than waiting for it to die. Swapping is what the network is for, and it costs nothing extra on an active rental.
