Samsung Battery Drain Overnight: What Actually Fixes It
Your Galaxy loses battery overnight because background apps stay awake, not because the cell is failing. Samsung's Background usage limits screen is the fix.
If your Galaxy loses 10 or 15 percent while you sleep, the battery cell is almost never the cause. Background apps that Samsung has not put to sleep are, and the setting that stops them sits in one screen: Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > Background usage limits.

Samsung documents three lists under Background usage limits, and the wording on its own support page is precise about what each one permits:
- Sleeping apps: "Shows you all apps that are currently sleeping but may run in the background if you start to use them again."
- Deep sleeping apps: "Shows you all apps that will never run in the background. They'll only work when you open them."
- Never sleeping apps: apps kept fully active, so they are always available without interruption.
The tiers are a trade, not a ladder. Each step down cuts drain and cuts function with it.

Deep sleeping is the one worth understanding before you use it. "Will never run in the background" includes the notification you were waiting for. Put a messaging app in there and it goes quiet until you tap the icon.
The toggle most people never touch
The same screen carries a switch called Put unused apps to sleep. Samsung's page says it "will automatically put apps to sleep if you haven't used them in a while," and that is as specific as Samsung gets. It does not publish the threshold.

It also gives the clearest illustration of the cost: skip your alarm clock app over a weekend and it may not ring on Monday.

Read it the morning after a bad night, before you charge. The list is ordered by consumption, and an app that you did not open while asleep sitting near the top of it is your answer. - Move the app you found into Deep sleeping apps.
